Friday ( Locals vs Foreigners @ 4:53:00 PM ) The topic was something about whether it's a good thing to bring in foreigners. Provoke some thoughts out of me. At the first place, what defines a "local" and "not local"? If a local migrates to another place, and come back, do you still regard them as local? If a foreigner comes to singapore and becomes a permanent resident, do we then regard him/her as local? The truth is, it is not an issue of nationality, it is an issue of culture. We see people who have different culture values from us as "not local". If a malaysian, who have stayed here for a while, speaks chinese the way we speak, will we still think he/she is not local? Nope. No matter where we lived, the cultural difference we have, we are all humans aren't we? why must we draw a line between us and them. Of course,different cultural background may cause communication problem. But that does not serve as an excuse to regard them as the outgroup. Alot of people feels that they do not welcome foreigners because they create trouble. For example, snatch jobs, snatch husbands, pollute our culture etc. May I ask you, if now another singaporean guy outdone you and "snatch" your chance of promotion, or even cause you to be fired, will you feel it is unfair, or would you just resign to fate? May I ask again, have all singapporeans females only stick to that one and only bf/husband, and NONE of us tries to snatch other people's husbands? Read the news people. Why do we think it is ok for locals to snatch husband/jobs, and a definite NO NO when it's a foreigners? Are all this issues only created by foreigners, or is created by humans? Is it just an excuse for us to reject them, because we don't understand their culture, and never want to understand becos we feel our culture is more superior? You do something repeatedly and soon you will realise how you manage to repeat the steps without thinking through, thus picking up speed. However, if in the mid you went to do something else for a period of time and comes back to do what you initially do, you will feel as if you are starting from scratch. 2) For the 3 days, it feel as if time passes very fast. Go to work, work, go home, sleep and continue the cycle. But then, although it passes very fast, it leaves you with alot of long-lasting memories... 3)The time for everyone to go is always the time we are closest to each other. At that moment, there is always the funny feeling that makes you feel you don't wanna leave. But then, after that moment, everything is back to square one and we are back to our usual life. It has been a very meaningful working experience for me. As problems occur, it makes me more determined to finish something, and it adds to my satisfaction. Looking forward to the next working days.... Nah I am just joking... I am so tireddddddd.....mentally.... 0 comments |
